Learn to use RootsMagic from the man who created it
(FREMONT, OHIO) – Computer users rarely have the chance to meet or talk with a software author. However, the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center offers that opportunity and more! On Sunday, April 5, Bruce Buzbee, creator of the RootsMagic genealogy software, leads a three-hour workshop in the Hayes Museum. The free event takes place 1-4 p.m. As a special feature for attendees, the Hayes Research Library will be open prior to the workshop from noon-1 p.m. The Library usually is closed on Sundays.
RootsMagic is one of the most popular computer programs used by people researching their family history. Its combination of simplicity of use and advanced features - like incorporating photographs and sharing options - meet the needs of genealogists of all skill levels. The Hayes Presidential Center uses RootsMagic to maintain the family history of 19th U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes.
During his presentation, Buzbee presents an overview of the latest version of his software RootsMagic4. He demonstrates use of the program, provides tips and tricks, and answers attendees' questions. In addition, in support of the Hayes Presidential Center he is donating autographed copies of the software and a zippered tote bag to anyone becoming a Center member at the $100 membership level.
The Hayes Research Library has one of the most extensive collections of genealogical resources in the area. Its public computers provide Internet access to researchers who do not have home computers or home access to resources like Heritage Quest. The Hayes Library also maintains the Ohio Obituary Index, an online database of obituary notices published in select newspapers across the state.
Although admission to the RootsMagic workshop is free, pre-registration is required. For information or to register call 419-332-2081 or email bhill@rbhayes.org. To find out more about RootsMagic visit www.rootsmagic.com.
The Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center is located at the corner of Hayes and Buckland avenues, Fremont, Ohio. The facility is affiliated with the Ohio Historical Society. Check the Hayes Presidential Center website www.rbhayes.org for a complete list of special events or to access the Ohio Obituary Index.
