"Everything Lincoln"
Tour to Commemorate Lincoln Bicentennial
(Columbus, Ohio)—The Ohio Historical Society will be hosting a tour to Springfield, Ill., this summer to commemorate the bicentennial of the birth of President Abraham Lincoln.
The series of stops on the tour, which begins on June 2, is expected to attract dozens of history enthusiasts as well as those interested in the story of our sixteenth president, according to Mark Holbrook, a civil war historian and the tour coordinator.
"Everything Lincoln" Tour Visits Key Landmarks
"In honor of the 200th anniversary of the birth of President Abraham Lincoln, the ‘Everything Lincoln’ bus tour will be making stops at many of the key historical sites in the political and social life of the former President," said Holbrook.
The three-day tour, June 2-4, will make its way to Springfield, Ill., to visit several historic sites. The first site is the Old State Capitol, the place where President Lincoln served as the seat of the state government and was at the center of political happenings in Illinois for nearly 40 years. There will also be a visit to the Lincoln-Herndon Law offices where Lincoln and partner William Herndon practiced law together for many years
The second day brings a stop at the Lincoln Home and Visitor Center, the place where Lincoln and his family lived prior to his election. There will also be time spent at the Lincoln Tomb, the final resting place of the president, his wife Mary, and three of their four sons. The tour concludes at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. The library and museum highlights many of the different pictures, items and events of the Lincoln family’s daily life. The tour will depart from and arrive at the Ohio Historical Center in Columbus, located on Velma Avenue just west of I-71.
The tour will be escorted by knowledgeable OHS staff to provide information and insight to make your journey through the past both entertaining and exciting. Reservations are required and the deadline is May 4. Call 800.647.6921 or e-mail ohsbustrips@ohiohistory.org for more information or to make your reservation.
