Hayes Library offers guidance in use of Internet for family research
(Feb. 25, 2009, FREMONT, Ohio) - Researching a family history can take years and significant amounts of travel. However, with the help of computers and the Internet much research can be accomplished from the comfort of home. The Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center shows novice and veteran genealogists how to make the most of today's computer technology in its Genealogy & the Internet Class. The next class takes place 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 7 in the Hayes Library. Pre-registration is required. The class is free of charge thanks to sponsorship from the Keller Family and Friends in memory of Marlo Snyder Keller.
An experienced genealogist from the Hayes Library staff leads the class. Participants gain first-hand experience working with genealogy resources that are available on the Internet. Instruction covers how to use online genealogy services like the AncestryLibrary.com and HeritageQuest.com, as well as the Center's online Obituary Index. A portion of the class will deal with the types of genealogical software available for home use. One such program, Roots Magic, is available for purchase through the Hayes Museum Store.
The Hayes Library houses one of the area's most comprehensive collections of genealogy resource materials. Knowledgeable staff always is on hand to help with questions and advice. Computers with Internet access also are available for use. The Hayes Library offers free genealogy classes on a regular basis as a means of introducing the public to its vast resources and the latest innovations in the field of genealogical research.
The Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center is located at the corner of Hayes and Buckland avenues. The facility is affiliated with the Ohio Historical Society.
