Ohio Historical Society Names New Administrative Director/CFO
(Columbus, Ohio) - The Ohio Historical Society (OHS) has hired Jeffrey K. Ward as director of administrative services/chief financial officer. Ward will oversee the Society's human resources, information technology and facility-rental and retail operations, as well as finance and accounting areas.
The Society has an annual budget of more than $20 million and oversees the state archives, the Ohio Historic Preservation Office, almost 2 million collection items, more than 58 historical sites and museums and countless educational programs for school-age and adult learners.
"Jeff Ward understands the complexity of our organization and is fully aware of the challenges we face because of uncertain state government funding and a troubled economy," OHS executive director and CEO William K. Laidlaw Jr. said of the appointment. "He also has just the right combination of skill and experience to help shape the Society's direction as we revise our strategic plan and business model and continue to pursue stability and growth."
Ward brings 22 years of experience in nonprofit financial management to the position, most recently as deputy executive director and chief financial officer for the National Middle School Association. Previously, he was vice president and chief financial officer for Quest International. Ward also has private-sector experience in cost accounting.
Ward holds a B.A. in accounting from Mount Vernon Nazarene University and an MBA from Auburn University. He served as treasurer for the National Forum to Accelerate Middle Grades Reform, served on the national advisory board for Safeguarding America’s Youth and is a member of the American Society of Association Executives.
Ward lives in Mount Vernon with his wife, Sandy, and two children.
