Archivist I, Reference
Summary:
Provides efficient and friendly reference services to researchers who use the collections of the Archives/Library in person, as well as via phone and written contact.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides specialized customer services to Archives/Library patrons onsite and offsite via phone and written contacts.
- Participates in Archives/Library collections maintenance projects including inventory, shelf reading and collection tracking.
- Participates in public presentations/tours promoting Archives/Library collections and services.
- Participates on OHS committees.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:
Master's degree in American history, Library Science or related discipline or equivalent work experience plus one-year direct work experience in a library archives.
Language Skills:
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with patrons, staff and donors.
Mathematical Skills:
Requires basic mathematical skills.
Technical Skills:
Proficient knowledge of computer programs to include Microsoft Office, and on-line database search programs.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to work independently, follow complex instructions, manage time effectively and exercise good judgment.
Physical Demands:
Requires the ability to lift, carry, reach and retrieve items weighing up to 50 pounds from a height of six feet, the ability to operate library carts. May require standing, and movement within a confined area for periods of up to four hours.
Work Environment:
Majority of the work in this position is performed in a library environment; some takes place in library stack and storage areas, with overhead lighting, and industrial HVAC air circulation system.
