Assistant, Registrar
Summary:
Assists in the maintenance of records associated with the Ohio Historical Society's museum and non-public records collections and other collections-related activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participates in updating the automated collection catalog, monitoring object locations and loans to and from the collections.
- Assists with record keeping systems and procedures that promote identification and management of collections.
- Performs inventories of Society's collections, including directing regular audits.
- Assists with loan negotiations, condition reporting, packing, shipping and insurance.
- Works with staff in other areas to facilitate collection-related activities, including exhibits, educational programs and development.
- Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree in museum studies or related subject or the equivalent in work experience plus minimum one-year experience in museum registration. Thorough knowledge of registration methods and policies, as well as current museum collection management and handling practices. Knowledge of and experience with automated collection records systems and collections conservation.
Language Skills:
Requires ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Mathematical Skills:
Requires intermediate level of mathematical skills.
Technical Skills:
Computer skills, including Microsoft Suite, and database development.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to work alone and as part of a larger team to accomplish objectives.
Physical Demands:
Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to sufficient to operate a keyboard, telephone, calculator and other office equipment as well as manual equipment such as a screwdriver, electric drill, etc. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate documents and papers. Requires ability to lift heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment:
Work is performed in office, storage facilities and exhibit environments. Frequent contact with staff and public. Work may be stressful at times.
