Department Manager, Engineering and Security Services
Summary:
Plans, organizes, directs, and maintains the mechanical, electrical, security systems and the safety-security program for the Society. Manages and coordinates repairs and custodial care and related equipment of the Ohio Historical Center, Ohio Village, and collections storage facilities. Leads Society's energy conservation efforts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of the mechanical, electrical, and security systems.
- Formulates and recommends policies, standards, and procedures relating to the operation and maintenance of the mechanical, electrical, and security systems (including keys and locks) consistent with Society policies and applicable codes and engineering standards.
- Acts as safety officer for the Society, including training, establishment of security and safety procedures, and provides leadership of the Safety Committee.
- Performs budgeting and cost management including negotiation and monitoring of service contracts related to the operations of the Department, including preventative maintenance contracts.
- Consults on the planning and engineering of mechanical systems and security program for the Society's statewide system of historic sites and museums and issues.
- Responsible for underground storage tanks, including records and insurance renewal.
- Responsible for project coordination and administration on major mechanical and electrical capital improvement projects at the Ohio Historical Center, Ohio Village, and the collections storage facility.
- Leads energy conservation efforts. Consults on and plans energy and utilities use.
- Reviews all procedures and systems periodically to ascertain effectiveness.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervises engineering staff, building and custodial maintenance unit manager and staff, and security unit manager and staff.

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree in engineering or its equivalence in education, training, and work experience plus at least 10 years experience in maintenance and management of mechanical, electrical, and security systems and staff for a comparable facility.
Certificate or Licensure:
Valid Ohio driver's license.
Language Skills:
Ability to read, understand, and update engineering drawings and documents. Ability to write instructions, specifications, and reports.
Mathematical Skills:
Requires intermediate mathematical skills with ability to maintain a budget.
Technical Skills:
Knowledge of heating, ventilating, air conditioning, electrical, and security systems and engineering, operation and maintenance of heat and power generating equipment, pneumatic, electrical, and digital controls.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems; collect data; establish facts; draw conclusions, and prepare meaningful reports.
Physical Demands:
Requires frequent bending, reaching, stooping, kneeling and walking. Requires lifting up to 100 pounds. Requires full range of eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to operate tools, engine-powered equipment and electrical machines. Requires exposure to chemicals and toxic substances. Requires working outdoors in all types of conditions. Requires normal eyesight and hearing to qualify for a certified driver's license and to operate heavy equipment.
Work Environment:
Works outside in all weather conditions. Frequent exposure to dust, dirt, water, and wet working areas. Frequent exposure to chemicals and noxious fumes and odors. Occasional need to work evenings and weekends. Day travel may be required 30% of the time. Over night lodging minimal.
