Reference Assistant
Summary:
Provides customer service to Archives/Library patrons onsite and via phone and written contacts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists patrons in public areas.
- Assist with Archives/Library collections activities including circulation, processing, inventory, shelf reading and collection tracking.
- Assists with mail management.
- Assists with written research and copy requests.
- Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:
Undergraduate degree in history, American studies, or library science or equivalent work experience plus one year experience in an archives or library.
Language Skills:
Ability to follow complex written or oral instructions.
Mathematical Skills:
Requires basic mathematical skills.
Technical Skills:
Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, working knowledge of Windows NT and the internet.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to work independently and pay attention to detail while completing repetitive tasks.
Physical Demands:
Requires prolonged sitting (chiefly at a computer terminal) and some bending, stooping and stretching. Also required on occasion is the lifting and moving of boxes weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to operate a loaded library cart.
Work Environment:
Majority of the work in this position is performed in an office environment; some takes place in library stack and storage areas and in the museum collection facility.
