Development Officer II

Summary:
Works with the Chief Development Officer (CDO) and staff to seek philanthropic support for the Society's immediate and long-term goals by identifying, soliciting and cultivating donors and donor prospects, researching and writing grant proposals, in addition to planning, organizing and executing a number of fundraising, marketing and special events activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Cultivates and maintains positive relationships with assigned and prospective donors in order to obtain individual, corporate and foundation support for the Society and maintain accurate donor interaction in Raiser's Edge database.
  • Works with the CDO and selected staff on fundraising for special projects/initiatives of the Society.
  • Performs prospect research and identification, various forms of solicitation and stewardship activities and private and government proposal research and writing.
  • Assists the CDO and other development staff with fundraising for the Annual Giving effort, support for major gift and planned giving programs.
  • Provides assistance with various committees of the Development Board.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree in business, liberal arts, or some other related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. Plus, a minimum of five years applicable work experience.

Language Skills:
Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences in person, on the telephone, and in writing.

Mathematical Skills:
Requires strong mathematical abilities.

Technical Skills:
Knowledge of personal computer applications with experience in Microsoft Office and Raiser's Edge.

Reasoning Ability:
Analytical and problem-solving skills are necessary. Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment, to work without continuous supervision, and to work cooperatively with internal and external customers and constituents. Accuracy and attention to detail are important.

Physical Demands:
Requires prolonged sitting, frequent standing, bending, stooping and occasional lifting up to 50 pounds. Requires normal range of hearing and manual dexterity sufficient to operate keyboard, telephone, photocopier, calculator and other office equipment as needed. Requires ability to work under stressful conditions to work irregular hours..

Work Environment:
Normal office environment. Some travel required. Occasional evening and/or weekend work.
