OSSRC Coordinator
Summary:
The Ohio Social Studies Resource Center (www.ossrc.org) provides access to online resources, effective teaching practices, and professional development opportunities for Ohio social studies teachers. The OSSRC operates under the aegis of the Ohio Historical Society (OHS), but is a collaboration of institutions that share an interest in improving social studies education in Ohio. This position reports to OHS's Outreach Project Department Manager, under the advice and guidance of the policy board of the OSSRC and is responsible for directing the operations of the resource center and for coordinating the development and dissemination of information that helps teachers align their classroom activities with Ohio's social studies content standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- PROGRAM MANAGEMENT:.
- Supervise the development and publication of a publicly accessible website that provides access to online social studies resources and notification of professional development opportunities to Ohio social studies teachers;
- Direct and assist in identifying and acquiring materials for posting on the OSSRC website;
- Create and deliver programming pertaining to effective teaching strategies as well as promotion of the OSSRC's mission and work;
- Collaborate with statewide networks to implement the mission of the OSSRC.
- OUTREACH AND ACCOUNTABILITY:
- Work with the OSSRC Policy Board to implement center policies and procedures;
- Serve as a liaison between the OSSRC Policy Board and the OHS' Outreach Projects Department;
- Serve as a liaison with state and regional organizations that support improvement efforts for K-12 social studies teaching;
- Develop and administer instruments and procedures to evaluate the effectiveness and level of user satisfaction of OSSRC initiatives;
- DEVELOPMENT:
- Work toward unified, coordinated program goals and outcomes for the OSSRC and OHS;
- Engage stakeholders in long-range strategic planning;
- Identify new and develop existing revenue streams and prepare grant proposals that fund OSSRC strategic initiatives.
- ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Candidates should have experience with: project management; the Ohio academic content standards in social studies; developing and giving presentations; and inter-agency collaboration.
- Preferred candidates will be: self-directed; detail-oriented; flexible; enthusiastic; able to multi-task; and able to work with deadlines.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:
A master's degree in Education or one of the social sciences (Social Studies Education and an Ohio teaching license preferred). Two or more years experience teaching one of the social sciences in an accredited K-12 school or related experience preferred.
Language Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to speak to small and large groups.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to create, manage and be accountable for a budget.
Technical Skills:
Experience with MS Office, especially Excel and database management preferred.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to substantiate proposals with rationale.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs and sit for prolonged periods (chiefly at a computer terminal).
Work Environment:
Normal office environment. Occasional evening or weekend work. Work may be stressful at times. Extensive travel across Ohio at times with occasional overnights.
