Historic Site Technician I/Part-Time Seasonal

Summary:
Under general direction, responsible for maintaining the historic, natural, or prehistoric site property.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • May complete routine building maintenance and custodial work such as cleaning, washing windows, and mopping floors; assists maintenance staff in performing minor building repairs; participates in scraping, sanding and painting projects.
  • May perform grounds maintenance duties such as mowing, weeding, and general grass and weed management; plants vegetative material and applies herbicide and insecticides to lawns, shrubs, and trees; participates in grounds and forest management activities and operates associate maintenance equipment.
  • May operate and maintain mowing equipment, tractors, trucks, snow blowers and other equipment used in the maintenance and operation of the historic site.
  • May participate in general site maintenance work and opening and closing procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent, plus one year's experience in custodial work desired or knowledge to do custodial work, and grounds keeping.

Language Skills:
Must be able to read and comprehend instructions and communicate effectively with the public.

Mathematical Skills:
Minimal mathematical skills required.

Technical Skills:
Skill to operate hand tools, power tools, a variety of custodial equipment and machines, and mowing equipment. Knowledge of plumbing HVAC and electrical work helpful.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply a common understanding to carry out a variety of instructions.

Physical Demands:
Requires frequent walking, bending, reaching, stooping, and kneeling. Requires frequent lifting up to 75 pounds. Requires full range of eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to operate tools, etc. Normal eyesight and hearing.

Work Environment:
Outside in all weather conditions. Frequent exposure to dust, dirt, water, and wet working areas. Frequent exposure to chemicals and noxious fumes and odors. Occasional need to work evenings and weekends.
