Groundskeeper II
Summary:
Performs grounds maintenance functions; grounds, facilities and equipment maintenance; landscaping and operation of associate equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs maintenance duties; plants, fertilizes, prunes and applied herbicides and insecticides to lawns, shrubs and trees; applies topsoil, grades surfaces and lays sod; participates in forest management.
- Cleans and repairs tools; services and repairs equipment including tractors, mowers, automotive stock, etc; installs attachments on equipment and operate same. Cleans and repairs site facilities, including buildings.
- Performs routine grounds maintenance and general labor; removes snow, applied de-icers; mows, weeds and cleans lawns and flowerbeds. Maintains parking lots and road; delivers supplies and assists in minor building construction; cleaning up of trash. Museum maintenance; cleaning floors, rest rooms; general maintenance.
- Knowledge of grounds maintenance, safety practices; skill in operating various types of grounds maintenance equipment (tractors, mower, sprayers, chain saws, stump router, trucks, etc.)
- Locking and unlocking park duties during season requires fluctuating scheduled work hours.
- Performs application of groundskeeping chemicals.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Applicable supervisory responsibilities including volunteers and/or staff may be required at some sites.
Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent. Plus, two to three years experience in grounds keeping or maintenance programs with at least one year of supervisory experience.
Language Skills:
Ability to carry out instructions in written, oral or drawing form and deal with problems involving several variables in familiar context.
Mathematical Skills:
Requires basic mathematical skills.
Technical Skills:
Ability to operate and maintain equipment including tractors, mowers, automotive stock, sprayers, etc.
Reasoning Ability:
The ability to keep records, make reports and teach employees to operate and care for equipment.
Physical Demands:
Requires frequent bending, reaching, stooping, kneeling and walking. Requires lifting up to 100 pounds. Requires full range of eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to operate tools, engine-powered equipment and electrical machines. Requires exposure to chemicals and toxic substances. Requires working outdoors in all types of conditions. Requires normal eyesight and hearing to qualify for a certified driver's license and to operate heavy equipment.
Work Environment:
Works outside in all weather conditions. Frequent exposure to dust, dirt, water, and wet working areas. Frequent exposure to chemicals and noxious fumes and odors. Occasional need to work evenings and weekends.
OTHER:
Some sites may require a greater knowledge of farming. Some sites may require a limited amount of travel; day travel may be required 30% of time; overnight lodging minimal.
