Departmental Manager, Historic Sites
Summary:
Responsible for management oversight of all OHS historic sites and museums, either managed by OHS staff or managed through an agreement with a local partner, with the exception of the Center, Ohio Village, Hayes Presidential Centers, and National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Works with OHS management, site personnel and community leaders to identify, solidify, coordinate and implement partnership agreements.
- Acts as liaison between management partners and OHS management to build cohesive working relationships.
- Establishes and fosters positive working relationships throughout all divisions allowing for effective coordination of site programs, services and needs.
- Works with the site managers of all OHS staffed sites to develop goals and standards for site operations, including financial goals, educational and interpretative activities, and public programs, and to support them in their efforts to accomplish those goals and standards.
- Prepares, monitors, and reports on departmental operating budget.
- Working with the Society's Development Office, prepares grant and sponsorship proposals and other requests for funding.
- Assures consistent, high-quality customer services at sites and museums by setting policies and procedures relating to general visitation and by offering and evaluating training and support to staff and local partners.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
supervises Regional managers, Community and Support Services.
Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university preferably in museum management or a related field plus at least six years of progressively responsible supervisory experience or experience managing a historic site or museum; or equivalent experience.
Certificates or Licensures:
Must have valid Ohio driver's license.
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts and to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Technical Skills:
Knowledge of Microsoft Suite and the internet. Familiarity with building and grounds maintenance standards and procedures.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Physical Demands:
Requires frequent bending, reaching, stooping, kneeling and walking. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to operate a telephone and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports. Requires lifting items of up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Work Environment:
Work done in an office, museum, or site environment. Involves frequent contact with the staff, the public, and organizations. Work may be stressful at times. Will require travel throughout Ohio. Days and hours may vary and will include evenings and weekends.
