Chief Financial Officer

Summary:
The Chief Financial Officer directs the accounting and related financial activities of the Society, including all earned revenue generating activities, to ensure sound financial administration. Recommend appropriate policies and establish internal control procedures to safeguard the assets of the Society.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead preparation by Senior Management of the Society's annual operating and capital budgets and monthly budget analyses and year-end forecasts. Oversee guidance and coordination with middle level managers on accounting/financial matters including the operating and capital budgets. Ensure that managers have and use financial information and reports that serve their needs.
  • Direct cash-flow analysis to maintain appropriate cash levels. Manage banking relationships to optimize service and minimize cost to the Society.
  • Direct the communication to staff of basic concepts of: cost accounting, margin analysis, profit/cost center identification, customer orientation, data processing, inventory control, forecasting and the preparation of balance sheets and operating statements.
  • Monitor and manage the investment portfolio.
  • Direct preparation for annual audit and other audit activities.
  • Manage the risk management program of the Society including participating in the selection of appropriate brokers.
  • Assist with the design of systems that provide incentives for managers to maximize financial performance.
  • Contribute, as a member of the Senior Management, to policy making and management of the Society.
  • Develop and maintain a high performance team.
  • Supervise business office and Business Ventures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:
BA/BS in Accounting, Finance or comparable field. CPA required. A minimum of 5 years relevant accounting/finance and high-level management experience. Communication Skills:
Strong interpersonal/communication skills. Ability to explain complex financial reports to diverse audiences. Ability to communicate significance of bottom line results and of components of results.

Mathematical Skills:
Skills required are those consistent with accounting background with an emphasis on financial analysis and managerial accounting.

Technical Skills:
Extensive use and knowledge of computerized accounting applications and spreadsheet software.

Reasoning Ability:
Exceptional analytical and organizational skills.
